1 Bento #161 - Dim Sum

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

I haven't had a lot of bento boxes to post in the last few days, mainly because E has been out of school with her typical wintertime cold/asthma/ear infections/fever (naturally they go hand-in-hand with one another.)  Yesterday's lunch was yummy dim sum from Trader Joe's.  Some pan-steamed shui mei pork and chicken cilantro wontons with some ponzu dipping sauce I made.  Oh, and I found this tray (one of two new ones) at Target in the $1 bins!  It's got a really cute robot/space design.

2 Bento #157 - Wontons Traffic Jam

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

These are new food picks I got recently from AllThingsForSale, but I wasn't really sure what to do with them.  They are transit vehicles.  Today they are in a traffic jam with Mr. Penguin the crossing guard (though I suppose he's not in the most efficient traffic-directing area.  I assume that's why they don't give penguins that kind of responsibility.)

Speaking of AllThingsForSale, look out for a new giveaway in the very, very near future!  In the meantime, click my affiliate banner link to the right of the blog, and when you check out with code Bentobloggy you will get 5% off, and 5% goes into Bentobloggy.com's affiliate account - when it reaches $25, I'll use it to do another giveaway!  (Currently there's about $11 in there.)  See?

2 Bento #149 - Dumpling Snack

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

This was a hearty snack I packed the other day when we went on a playdate at a local kids gym.  These chicken wontons are a new brand I found at Costco, Green Chopsticks, which look a lot like the chicken cilantro wontons from Trader Joe's.  We really like the TJ's one's better, but these aren't bad (especially with dipping sauce, otherwise they are kinda bland.)  I really like how fast they cook - 2 minutes!

Also, this is the last picture with my point-and-shoot camera.  After we got home from our playdate, my new DSLR camera was waiting on my doorstep!  Now to figure out how to use it....  Your photography tips are certainly welcomed.

12 Bento #133 - Double Noodle Bento

Monday, November 8, 2010

This double bento is from Friday evening.  We took E to have an evening playdate with our friend's daughter K (while we parents went to dinner AT the movie theatre) so I made them noodles and wontons.  They are just regular ramen noodles, but I always make the sauce that seasons them myself and throw the powder packet away.  There is way, way too much sodium and MSG in those things!  It's just soy sauce, garlic, ginger, dash of rice wine vinegar and toasted sesame oil, and some pepper.  Sometimes I get a little wild and add a dash of fish sauce and some sliced green onions.  I would normally add some frozen veggie mix (peas, carrots, corn, etc.) but Miss K is a little finicky, so I held off.  Of course, the animal chopsticks make it extra fun.

2 Bento #88 - Garden Snake Noodles

Monday, June 21, 2010

We return with a slithery kids lunch - ramen noodles as the "grass", wontons and sweet red peppers make a flowery canopy and a nice green cucumber garden "snake" making his way through it all.  E was delighted when she saw this and kept exclaiming how much she liked it!

2 Bento #72 - Chicken-Cilantro Wontons & Sprouts

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Yum!  These wontons are SO good!  They are some of my favorite from Trader Joe's, and E loves them.  Also, I gave her a rare special treat.  The cookies are Digestives biscuits which come from my fave British shop around the corner.  Brings back childhood memories!  The entire box came back empty.  I have only recently introduced her to sprouts, and she loves them.
