5 Bento #229 - Gyoza & Baby Bel

Thursday, January 26, 2012

More Baby Bel!  I got myself an X-Acto knock-off (hello, it was PINK and retractable) and so I experimented a little.  I used some deco cutters to make a light imprint in the wax, and then traced it.  It's really not precise, but I think I just need some practice.  Or have my hubby do it.

And *gasp* another chocolate treat!  I fully blame my mom for this.  She sent us a HUGE - and I mean massive - box of chocolates in the mail yesterday.  So E got a chocolate nut cluster in today's lunch.

The gyoza are not actually burned, just FYI.

Bento #229 - Chicken gyoza, ponzu sauce, celery sticks, ranch dip, dried cranberries, Baby Bel cheese, chocolate nut cluster and pretzels.  Snack - whole grain apple snack bar.

1 Bento #161 - Dim Sum

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

I haven't had a lot of bento boxes to post in the last few days, mainly because E has been out of school with her typical wintertime cold/asthma/ear infections/fever (naturally they go hand-in-hand with one another.)  Yesterday's lunch was yummy dim sum from Trader Joe's.  Some pan-steamed shui mei pork and chicken cilantro wontons with some ponzu dipping sauce I made.  Oh, and I found this tray (one of two new ones) at Target in the $1 bins!  It's got a really cute robot/space design.

Bento #161 - Pork shui mei, chicken cilantro wontons, ponzu sauce, red grapes and lettuce.

2 Bento #84 - Mini Gyoza & Veg

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Why so much veg on this plate??  It's because Miss E and I just finished making some totally amazing no-bake granola bars, and when they're entirely cool, she won't be able to keep her hands off them!  She already licked the mixing bowl clean.  I figured she needed some extra veggies to counter-balance the extra sweetness of the granola bars.  I'll be posting the recipe tomorrow.

1 Bento #80 - Mini Gyoza & Lettuce

Friday, May 21, 2010

Ahh, bittersweet!  This was the bento I packed for E's last school lunch of the year.  Her last day is today, but since it's a half day, no lunch.  It's a little reprisal of the first school bento I packed for her.

2 Bento #76 - Dumplings & Cheese

Friday, May 7, 2010

Are dumplings and cheese a weird combo?  Probably, but I'm positive E will eat it all.  They look burned, but I swear they're not.  For some reason this particular brand of mini gyoza give off more starch or something while I cook them, and they always look darker.  The bird was accidental - I was cutting out the hearts and I saw a bird in the trimmings, so I stuck on an "eye" (dot sprinkle).    The container is filled with ponzu sauce.

Bento #76 - Pork & leek gyoza with ponzu, baby carrots, colby and swiss cheese hearts and bird, and blackberries.

I'm contemplating making bentos for the whole family for tonight's annual spring picnic at Ella's school.

0 Bento #56 - Mini Gyoza

Friday, January 22, 2010

Gosh, these mini chicken gyoza I got from Super H Mart are so good.  They really taste homemade (and they might be considering how proud the sample lady was when we tried them in the store.)  This also marks the return of the sad giraffes.  Sad because E chewed on their "legs" and are thus a little bent?  That'd probably make me rather frowny too.

Oh!  I got a delivery attempt notification yesterday for some new bento stuff.  Hope it comes today.

Bento #56 - Mini chicken gyoza, fresh broccoli florets and carrot coins, a mix of golden raisins, craisins, dried blueberries and cherries.
