Lunch today is in a Lego lunchbox with some butterflies.  It's ham and cheddar on whole wheat, and in the butterfly shape with a LunchPunch. You can't really see the butterfly sandwich very well, but next to it is a cute silicone butterfly cup filled with organic cucumber wedges, and a mini banana.

0 Bento #261 - Turkey & Cheese Sammy

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Ella caught a glimpse of this lunch before I packed it away and she said "COOOL!  Except, I'm going to pretend that's a cat and not a dog."  What can I say?  The girl loves cats.

Quite a blurry picture of the sides - fresh fruit salad and broccoli.

Sandwich is cheddar and smoked turkey on whole wheat, and a side of ranch for the broccoli.

Easy Lunchbox all packed up!

Bento #261 - Turkey & cheddar on whole wheat, fruit salad and broccoli with ranch dressing.

6 Bento #234 - Puppy House Ham Sandwich

Thursday, February 9, 2012

The weather has been really nice here lately and the days are starting to get longer.  I had the tiniest bit of energy and daylight left yesterday and quickly made lunch so I could photograph in some natural light.  E adores this LunchPunch puppy inside-out sandwich!  Ham and cheese.

The last of the cucumber flowers I did the day before with a cute koala bear peering out.

And a mound of juicy grapes.

Check out my new Easy Lunch Box!  Founder and CEO Kelly Lester sent me one of these kits, and I'm in love with the deep compartments, and the large and roomy carrying bag.  If you're still looking for a top-style carry bag, go and get yourselves one of these!

Bento #234 - Ham & cheese sandwich, pretzel sticks, grapes and cucumbers.  Snack - Clementine & Baby Bel cheese (not shown.)

6 Bento #216 - Frog Prince Sandwich & Edamame

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I just love these Lunch Punches!    This one is a frog prince, though I wish the features showed up better in the pictures.  Super cute.   As you can see below, I did an inside-out layered sandwich with 36 16 grain bread (doesn't it seem like they are now putting out bread with crazy amounts of grains?  This one was dropping flax seeds and nuts all over my counter.)

Edamame and some berry Yogurt Stars.

Ninja Aussie apple.

And all packed up in her PlanetBox.

Bento #216 - Whole grain bread and Colby cheese sandwich, berry Yogurt Star cookies, edamame, dried cherries and vitamins.  Snack - Aussie apple.

4 Bento #200! First Day of Kindergarten Flower PB&J

Monday, August 15, 2011

Aaaand 200!  I asked Miss E what she wanted for her first day of Kindergarten lunch, and she was very specific.  She wanted PB&J, carrots, broccoli (which I don't have, so she settled for celery), dip, and an Aussie apple. This year parents are sending snacks every day, rather than depending on a class snack.  It works for me because I can control exactly what goes in her belly and make sure it's healthy.  She asked for a granola bite and a slushy applesauce (frozen applesauce which is slushy by the time lunch rolls around.)  Your wish is my command!

Bento #200 - Organic peanut butter and organic strawberry jam on 15 grain bread, organic carrots and organic celery, ranch dip, homemade granola bite, frozen apple sauce and an Aussie apple (not shown.)

So, what are you guys planning for your kiddos for the first day of school?

2 Bento #167 - Mini Meatballs & Puzzle Class Snack

Friday, February 18, 2011

We have a smallish bento today, since it's a special day at school - 'Grandfriends' day.  Not only did we bring a special class snack for the kids and visitors, but my parents, Ella's Mumu & Obbie are visiting from Maryland!  We are so excited that they were able to come for a nice visit.

Here is our class snack (plus two other trays not shown) - they are just simple cheese sandwiches cut out with the puzzle Lunch Punch Match & Munch cutter, and assembled  using their nifty puzzle diagram (which had my mom and I scratching our heads more than once!)  Their's looks a lot nicer than ours, that's for sure, but it was still pretty neat.

Bento #167 - Mini meatballs, steamed organic broccoli, mini pretzel sticks, salad cream, and an almond butter-stuffed Aussie apple.

3 Bento #166 - Frog Prince Sandwich

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Today I used one of my Lunch Punch Sand*wishes cutters to make this cute frog prince.  He's even got a sparkly green scepter.  Two tadpoles are peeking out of fresh blueberries and broccoli florets.

3 Bento #159 - Grilled Chicken & Cherries

Monday, January 31, 2011

Aww, a Lunch Punch butterfly!  It's got cheese and thinly sliced chicken on Publix brand White Mountain bread (yum!)  I also made a cute flower with cutouts from the little kit I got from AllThingsForSale.  Super easy, and adorable.  It goes along with the center I am doing for the kids this morning - tangram puzzles.

Bento #159 - Grilled chicken & cheese, carrots and fresh cherries.

12 Bento #140 - Grilled Ham & Cheese Flowers

Monday, December 6, 2010

Here's a little experiment I tried today, and while it's not green eggs and ham, a green cheese flower will have to do!  Going into the new year my goal is to try some new techniques in my bentos, and since this turned out well, my confidence is bolstered.  It was really simple, I just dropped a dot of green food colouring on the cheese (provolone) and used the back of a spoon to coat it all over.  The color takes very quickly.  I blotted up the excess with a paper towel.  Voila!

Bento #140 - Grilled ham & cheese, coloured provolone flower, pretzel sticks, craisins, organic baby carrots and ranch dip.

10 Bento #136 - Puzzle Ham & Cheese

Friday, November 12, 2010

I got my new Lunch Punch puzzle cutters last week, isn't this so cool?  I've found that cutting each individual layer of the sandwich works best for preserving the shapes.  What's nice is that the cutter is the perfect size for cutting a standard slice of cheese, with little waste.  What are your favorite sandwich shapes?

Bento #136 - Ham & Colby cheese on wheat, red grapes, baby carrots, edamame, ranch dip and a Hershey's Kiss.

2 Bento #128 - Princess PB&J

Saturday, October 30, 2010

Today we have some of the super yummy bread I made the other night in the shape of a Lunch Punch princess which is slathered with organic peanut butter and organic strawberry preserves.  The eyes and mouth are jumbo non-pareils.  We have an all-day conference today, so I packed some extra in her bag for snacks too, some yogurt, mini peanut butter crackers and ducky cheese crackers.  Hopefully that'll hold her over until the end of the day.

Bento #128 - Organic princess PB&J, strawberry slices, macadamia nuts, celery sticks and cheese cubes.

0 Bento #122 - Tomato Basil Soup

Friday, October 15, 2010

YUM.  My tomato basil soup is out of this world, and E thinks so too.  I made a batch the other evening, and she decided she loved it, and asked me to pack it for lunch today.  I have been on the hunt for a really good thermal cup, and found this one by Aladdin some months ago which I like, and is also neat because it has a built-in spoon drawer in the top.  However, as with most thermal containers, you really have to prepare it if you want things to stay warm.  Running lots of hot water in the cup and on the top, super-heating the soup, and then moving very quickly!  Also, it's quite wide for little hands, so I know she'll need help opening for lunch today.  The fruit salad she loves, and lately I've been buying a bowl at Publix every week.  It's really convenient for me because we get a wide range of yummy fresh fruit that's already nicely prepared.

BTW, Margo of Margo Madison Creative Stationery send me this neat idea for making your own food picks!  Check it out on her blog here!  It's such a neat idea when you want to have something unique on hand, and I'm sure this would be a great hit with the kids.

Bento #122 - Tomato basil soup, Lunch Punch dolphin grilled cheese, ducky cheese crackers, and fresh fruit salad.

5 Bento #116 - Elephant PB&J & Grape Canopy

Monday, October 4, 2010

We had a very busy weekend at the Petit Le Mans endurance race at Road Atlanta, and had a wonderful time!  Got my Australian Bakery fix while we were there, as thankfully they were one of the race vendors.

I made this cute PB&J elephant with a LunchPunch, but the extra elephant details got mushed, so I put that side on the bottom.  They are standing under a green grape "canopy".   I love those little soy crackers I get from TJ's, but E says she doesn't really care for them.  I think they are great!

Bento #116 - Elephant PB&J, baby carrots, ranch dip, cheddar coins and soy crackers.

6 Bento #111 - PB&J Crown

Thursday, September 23, 2010

I made lunch at 1am this morning.  I wasn't going to take a picture, but I thought I might as well show it - I can't be the only one who packs messy lunches on occasion!  I used an adorable Lunch Punch to cut out the crown, but my mistake was in deciding to remove the heart cutout from the middle.  I use organic peanut butter which is extremely runny, and well, you see what I mean?  Also, I grabbed a too-large container, and had to shore up the sandwich with the sliced apples.  Sort of ruins the crown design.  The only thing that looks good is the cucumber flowers, which thankfully I'd done earlier, when not so dead tired.

Bento #111 - PB&J with organic strawberry preserves & peanut butter, pink lady apple slices, mozzarella cheese, and cucumber flowers.

5 Bento #102 - Butterfly Grilled Cheese & Yogurt

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Here's a cute garden lunch!  We made a Lunch Punch butterfly grilled cheese with sugar snap pea antennae, and a special dessert was some peach yogurt with rainbow butterfly sprinkles.

7 Bento #99 - Peanut Butter & Honey Lunch Punch Princess

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

First of all, Kiersten at The Lunch Punch totally rocks!  She sent me some absolutely adorable Lunch Punches!  A set of the brand new ultra-girly Sand*wishes* as well as the all around kid-pleasing Critter Cutters.  I am so ordering the Match & Munch set next, I can totally envision doing a big puzzle class snack like this.

I have also gone way beyond my alloted ration of Nutella sandwiches since these arrived.  I mean, just look at this fairy bread (fairy bread is an Australian kid favorite, which is where Lunch Punch originated!  It's lightly toasted or un-toasted bread, buttered, and then topped with 'hundreds and thousands' aka sprinkles.)

These are so cute, you really need to get some of these!  Thank you, Lunch Punch!!

Second, my 99th published bento??  Really?  I'm going to have to think up something special for #100.

Bento #99 - Peanut butter & honey Lunch Punch princess sandwich with jumbo nonpareils for "eyes" and "jewels", strawberry slices, sugar snap peas, mozzarella cheese and salad cream in the monkey sauce case.
