8 Introducing...Bentobloggy!

Monday, August 10, 2009

Hi! I'm the mom of 3 year old Ella. Miss Ella will be going to pre-school three days a week this year, a fantastic International Baccalaureate school on 40 acres of land with ponies, farm animals and organic gardens.  It's a wonderful environment for kids to learn in, because they take the kids outside every single day - rain or shine - for nature hikes, caring for the farm animals, pony rides, organic gardening, and just plain fun!   I'm really excited to get started making neat, healthy lunches for her, hopefully ones where she will venture to eat new things. Now, I dont pretend to be an expert in bento (or even packing kid lunches!), and I'm certainly no photographer (so please don't hold too-dark or over-exposed photos too much against me!) but I am creative and I'm thinking of this as my new hobby. Bentobloggy chronicles my adventures in bento-making, healthy foods, as well as my other culinary efforts.

Enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!

Love your lunch ideas, but where do you get all your containers and bits and bobs???

Hi Jenifer, thanks for stopping by my little corner!

I usually peruse eBay - lots and lots of sellers of bento items. I also get silicone cups from JoAnn's and other craft places. I've even found neat silicone cups at World Market. I keep my eye out all the time for containers that can be re-purposed for making cute lunches (all food safe, of course.)

Hi Emily,

I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old and know what a challenge it can be to get kids to eat. I'm loving your blog and your creative ideas. Thank you for sharing your fun meal ideas with us. Your daughter is lucky to have such a fun, loving Mom like you. Kudos to you for what you're doing!

Hi! This might be dumb, but what is bento??

Thanks,

A bento is simply a Japanese lunch in a box. These days bentos are getting popular for kids as a way to decorate or shape food into pleasing characters or add fun items to the food to help get kids interested in what they're eating.

Hi Emily,
I just came upon your blog this morning and I have literally spent all day reading or scanning all of your posts! I don't have any children but I think your bentos are a great representation of how you can pack healthful and fun lunches for children. Looking forward to more posts!
